Well I am probably the only nautical nanny so that makes me your favorite ;) I have seen this on some other blogs and thought it would be a fun personal post, a break for your wallet (so to speak). I don't think my job is very exciting but I love it! During the summer my hours are down to ~35 per week but I will be back to 40-50 next week.
A typical weekday:
8:30: wake up!, shower (I can't function for hours unless I shower), check my Blackberry, eat breakfast (sourdough toast, chocolate milk, and fruit). If I have time: check sample sale sites online, check Facebook, etc
9:25: Drive to work (battle LA traffic). My commute usually takes under 10 minutes (jealous?) BUT if I miss this one light it takes 20 (and I seem to miss this light quite a lot)
9:40: Arrive at work! Put my Blackberry on vibrate, wash my hands and greet the most handsome (little) man in my life: Baby H! I get a morning update from whoever I am relieving
The rest of the day includes a lot of playing on the floor (ok this really just involves me singing offkey kid songs, dangling toys, and attempting to get H to crawl). Once a week we go to a baby and me class. Sometimes we go to HELL (aka Babies R Us) if we are low on supplies. We take strolls around the neighborhood and hit up the parks.
During naptime
LAUNDRY: I think I do at least 2 loads a day! I do love folding the tiny baby clothes though. And my employers are huge VV and J.Crew fans so at least I'm not sorting Ed Hardy or anything like that ;) DISHES: I handwash all of the bottles (super fun) and load/unload the dishwasher. Put away toys, restock the diapers/wipes/baby bag, etc. If I have time to sit down I sign onto Twitter. I email H's mom updates throughout the day (including funny/cute photos). Sometimes I really wish I worked in an office where I had a computer (to read blogs, of course!) but I truly love my job so forgive me for not commenting as often as I used to!
I usually finish work between 4-5 (it is going to be TOUGH to go back to working 40+ hours per week).
After work
I stop at the library, bank, grocery store, Target etc. When I get home I check email again, look at my favorite websites, etc. I get changed (or not) and head out with friends for dinner and TV (or a movie) or have friends over. I am trying to be better about reading blogs but it is so hard to catch up at the end of the day! I don't always comment but I am reading!
I TRY to get ready for bed around 11 and turn my light off at 11:30 but it has been closer to 12 these past few weeks. I need my sleep and I do not like going to bed late (despite the fact I get up relatively late).
I was a nanny for a few year whilst in college. I had the best time. I still keep in touch with the family.
