My Nautical Christmas Tree

I have a fake pre-lit tree from Target that I have used for the last few years. It's easy to set up and easy to store. I still need the perfect nautical tree topper and tree skirt but otherwise I love my tree!

I really wanted the Santa hat octopus from Crate and Barrel but it sold out. Then I found the same exact one at Bloomingdales!

  1. Love the tree. I am making a nautical room in my house, and can't wait for it to have its own tree!!

    1. I like doing a theme while I can. I imagine once I am married and have kids (I hope!) the tree will be a mix of my ornaments, his ornaments, and new ones. I think once you have kids you have to do multiple trees if you want to stick with a theme! I know H puts all of his elephant ornaments in my corner and wishes they did an animal theme

  3. Your tree is so cute! I especially like the anchor adorned knit sweater ornament.
I've collected a few nautical/sea themed ornaments from several travels. This year I ended up decorating one side of my tree with a sea theme. (I have too many other sentimental ornaments of different varieties that I didn't want to leave out, so going with the theme on one side made me happy!)

Kohl's department store had a large selection of sea/nautical themed ornaments (the last couple of years it has been a popular theme there). This year my favorite find(s) at Kohl's was a tinted blue w/ glitter glass Sting ray and a tin Palm Tree with a gold glitter spiral trunk and bent (as in flowing in the wind) glittery palms with two mini jingle bells under the leaves. They were late in the season finds and the last of each kind (and on a deep sale) so I was thrilled when I spotted them.

If I could make a suggestion for a tree topper & skirt - the topper I picture a pretty silver star because the stars shine so brightly on the sea at night and for the skirt a brown burlap (it could re-create the look of sand) or buy at a hardware store a painters drop cloth that looks like sailcloth. Just wrap/bunch up the burlap or dropcloth in a circular drape around your tree base. I've seen someone use a favorite blanket that way for a tree skirt and there's no sewing involved - Perfect solution. I think either the burlap or sailcloth would look fantastic and not detract from your themed ornaments like a typical Christmas tree skirt might. Have fun adding to your collection!

    1. Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Pam!

Right now I am doing the nautical theme but I have saved a lot of other ornaments to use when I get married/have my own family. Ones from my childhood and cute non-nautical ones! I can't wait to have a big tree with all of my favorite ornaments on it!

I don't have a Kohl's nearby but I will check there next year-either online or in store now that I know they have lots of ornaments!

Those are great ideas for topper and skirts. I love the burlap and sailcloth ideas. I really want to find something I can use for years!

  5. Beautiful! Love how magical your tree looks with such pretty beach ornaments. My sister always does a seaside theme each year and I like to gift her in November to add to her collection :)
