Fake Prom on Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was pretty perfect this year. I slept in and then went to see the documentary, Ballet 422 with my parents. I can't dance but man, I love watching people who can! After the movie I relaxed at home and then headed to prom with friends. Unique USA put on its 3rd annual Fake Prom downtown. The theme this year was Back to the Future's "Enchantment Under the Sea." There was a dj and dancing, a photobooth, DIY corsage/boutonniere station, and because we are out of high school, a bar! I hate to even mention this because of the awful weather back east BUT the outdoor space was maybe my favorite part. The bar was outside along with a food truck, singles lounge, and the DeLorean (see below).  No heat lamps or jackets needed for most of the night (after dancing we came outside and the temperature had dropped quite a bit though).

I wore my Boden dress that I have worn for every major event since I bought it (ha). I love this dress!

Yep, they even had the DeLorean!

And I ran into Tiffany and her husband, they are the cutest couple (I featured their wedding here)
The awkward prom poses in the photobooth were just hilarious. Some of the couples really got it spot on. Here was our awkward pose:

  4. Wasn't Ballet 422 incredible!?!? I saw it on Sunday night and loved how it went beyond the dancing to show all aspects of Justin Peck's creative process. {I wrote a post about it here} Of course the dancing was absolutely amazing!

And Fake Prom looks like so much fun!! I'm going to have to look into that next year!

  5. How was Ballet 422? I'm a huge documentary lover and am always looking for new ones to watch!

I'm kind of obsessed with the idea of post-high school proms. They all seem so cute and fun. I've only seen them pop up on the West Coast (sadly), but would looveee to go to one. Super jealous of the weather all you West Coast residents are getting right now, as a Vancouver native I am constantly jealous of those who still live in the area. There should be a moratorium on posting about the summer-like weather on that side of the continent while those out East are still suffering. Bring on spring!

    1. I loved it! I actually saw it twice-once with my parents and then again with my grandma. My grandma is a retired ballet teacher so I knew I had to take her. I was hoping for a little bit more dance but it's still a great documentary I thought. It really goes behind the scenes to show just how much is involved-from lighting and costumes to choreography.

My sister did a prom themed party and bar crawl with friends a few years ago. I definitely think it's something you could organize with a group of friends!
