Well today is the day! I am beginning my master's program! This will be my first week working part time instead of full time. It was a really tough decision to go back to school and I hope that it was the right one! It is going to be an adjustment for me and for H but hopefully the transition is relatively smooth!

Recent purchases
During my staycation I stopped at Vineyard Vines in Newport Beach and bought this adorable chambray embroidered top. I wore it to the Kevin from Work screening and as soon as it cools down I will be wearing it weekly. I love the dot detail.
At the Nordstrom half yearly sale I ordered these Sam Edelman booties. I have a feeling that everyone and their mother will be wearing these this fall. HA! I saw them all over Instagram and blogs. I really wanted a pair of booties with a little heel that I can wear to school, work/internships, and out on weekends/to events. I thought these would be perfect. I actually wore them to the Kevin from Work screening even though it isn't quite boot weather yet.
Vineyard Vines is currently offering 30% off sale items (use code: DOGDAYS15) so I ordered two other tops that I had seen when I was in the store. I pretty much live in popover shirts. I like that they are a bit more relaxed than full button down but still look put together. I bought a gingham popover shirt in blue and the anchor sailboat popover.

Kevin From Work screening
Vineyard Vines top |
Last week I went to a screening of the new ABC Family show, Kevin From Work, at the RealD theater in Beverly Hills. Before the show there were delicious (mini) cupcakes and champagne. The show is a 30 minute comedy about a guy named Kevin that is in love with his co-worker, Audrey. Kevin thinks he is moving abroad for a new job so he professes his love to Audrey. I don't want to spoil what happens but I will say it doesn't go according to plan! The show is premiering on ABC Family Wednesday August 12 at 8 PM. There will be back to back episodes for the premiere.
The lighting wasn't great but these cupcakes from Baked by Melissa were AMAZING! My favorite was the cookie dough one-cookie dough on top AND inside! |
I loved the first episode of the show. I'm picky about comedies but this one is funny and charming. I think everyone identifies a little with Kevin. We've all had crushes/unrequited love at some point! After the screening there was a short Q and A with the cast. They had great chemistry which I think you can see in the show too.

(Grad) School Supplies
I have just two weeks until my graduate school classes begin! I am beginning to gather my supplies (!). There were a few things I wanted to have before classes start but otherwise I am waiting for school to start to buy anything more. Here's what I have already:
Laptop sleeve, Herschel Supply Co , $40 I really wanted the navy with red hearts but it is only available in 11" or 15". I do like the chambray a lot though so I think I am going to order it
Nautical page flags, Amy Ruth Designs, $5 These are greats for notes, planner, books, etc. The critter ones are super cute too.
Sailboat spiral notebook and matching folders, Amy Ruth Designs, $12
Agenda, Lilly Pulitzer, $22 Nothing says new school year more than a new planner! I have always preferred a paper planner/calendar
New laptop! I got the MacBook Air 13". This was my big splurge. My beloved pink Dell stopped working completely this summer. For the past year or so it had to be plugged in at all times but then it just stopped keeping a charge at all. I've never had a Mac but I wanted something light weight with a better battery life and no pesky viruses. I am still getting used to it but so far I like it! I can get Microsoft Office for free through school so that's really nice (and something I had worried about going Mac).

Staycation
This week I have my staycation!!! It's been bittersweet as next week is my last week with H as his full time nanny before we both start school (insert tears). I will then be transitioning to two days a week (thankful I can still see him every week!). BUT I planned a lot of fun things for my staycation week. Saturday night I saw AWOLNATION at the Paladium in Hollywood. I don't love the venue (you can't see from the floor and it was too hot inside) but the band was great live.
I went to see Spamalot at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday. I invited one of my friends that was out of the country for 7 weeks. I was so happy to see her again! The show was hilarious! Craig Robinson has a great voice-I had no idea!
Monday I went to lunch with my grandma and relaxed. I made a list of everything I needed to get done this week and next. I had minor surgery on July 24 so I am still taking it easy whenever I can.
Tuesday was my busy day. I went to South Coast Plaza, Fashion Island, AND Irvine Spectrum. I didn't have time to get to every store but I made it to Land of Nod, Vineyard Vines, Hanna Andersson (three stores that aren't nearby).
I also got my eye makeup done at Sephora and a pedicure while I waited for Leeann. Leeann and I had dinner at Yard House and then went to see Brent Morin at the Improv. We saw Brent (and the cast of Undateable) before at the WB Comedy Night last year. I have a pretty big crush on him.
Tonight (Thursday) I am going to a screening of the new show, Kevin From Work. There is also a q&a with the cast. The show looks cute and funny so I will definitely be watching it. I will have a separate post up about the show next week.
Friday I am babysitting my nephews all day and then sleeping over at my sister's. Saturday I will hopefully fit in a movie with my dad before Leeann and I head to ALT 98.7's Summer Camp at the Santa Monica Pier. It should be a fun concert! Sunday I am going to REST before I head into my final full week at work!
